PDF A4 Converter FAQ

How big is A4?

210 × 297 millimetres, or 8.27 × 11.69 inches, 595 × 842 points in PDF units.

What happens to Letter pages?

Letter is 6 mm wider and 18 mm shorter. Scale to fit shrinks it by about 3% so the full width fits; actual size keeps it unscaled and adds space above and below, cutting 3 mm at each side.

Will text stay sharp?

Yes. Pages are placed as vector content.

Are links kept?

Links and form fields are not transferred to the new pages.

What about landscape pages?

They become A4 landscape unless you choose portrait.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. It is processed on your device.

Why convert PDFs to A4

A4 belongs to the ISO 216 series used almost everywhere except the United States, Canada and a few other countries. Its proportions follow the square root of two, so halving an A4 sheet gives two A5 sheets of the same shape, which makes scaling between A sizes clean.

Documents created in North America usually use US Letter. Printed on A4 without adjustment, they may lose a few millimetres at the sides or be shrunk unpredictably by the printer driver. Converting them first gives a predictable result: scaled slightly to fit, or kept at actual size with the overflow trimmed evenly.

Official submissions often require A4 explicitly, and print shops expect consistent page sizes. Scans of receipts, letters and certificates produce mixed sizes that look untidy when printed together; converting all pages to A4 makes the document uniform.

The conversion keeps each page as vector content, centred on the A4 sheet, so text stays sharp and selectable. It runs in your browser with pdf-lib.

When printing the converted file, choose “Actual size” or 100% in the print dialog. Printer drivers that apply their own “Fit to page” scaling on top can shrink the content a second time. If your printer leaves an unprintable border, add a margin of 5 mm in the converter instead, so the scaling happens once and predictably.
