Image Converter FAQ
Which output format should I pick?
JPG for photographs and maximum compatibility. PNG for screenshots, graphics, and anything that needs transparency or lossless quality. WebP for web use, where it gives the smallest files. BMP only when a specific program demands it, because BMP files are uncompressed and large.
Can it convert animated GIFs?
The first frame is converted to a still image. Animation is not preserved.
Why is there no AVIF or GIF output?
Browsers cannot yet encode those formats reliably. The tool offers only formats it can produce consistently on every modern browser.
How are SVG files handled?
An SVG is drawn at the width and height defined in the file. For control over the output size, use the dedicated SVG to PNG tool.
Is there a limit on files?
Up to 80 images per batch, each up to 50 MB.
A short guide to image formats
Raster image formats differ mainly in how they compress pixels. Lossy formats such as JPG, and WebP in its default mode, discard fine detail to reach small sizes, which suits photographs. Lossless formats such as PNG and BMP keep every pixel exactly; PNG compresses the data while BMP stores it raw.
Features differ too. PNG and WebP support transparency; JPG and BMP as written here do not. GIF is limited to 256 colours and is mainly used for simple animation. ICO is a container for small icon images. SVG is not pixel-based at all: it describes shapes mathematically and must be rendered to pixels before it can be saved in a raster format.
When converting, choose the output by purpose rather than habit. Re-encoding a photo as PNG makes it far larger without improving it, while saving a crisp diagram as a low-quality JPG smears its edges.
