Legal (8.5 × 14 in) is scaled down to fit Letter height.

Yes. Pages are placed as vector content.

Converting PDFs to US Letter

US Letter is the standard office paper in the United States, Canada and parts of Latin America. It is slightly wider and noticeably shorter than A4, so documents from the rest of the world often lose their footer or bottom margin when printed on Letter without adjustment.

Converting to Letter before printing avoids that. In fit mode, each page is scaled down just enough that its full height fits, and centred horizontally. Actual size keeps the original scale for documents where measurements matter, trimming evenly at the top and bottom.

Forms submitted to American schools, government agencies and companies often have to be Letter size, and print shops expect consistent pages. Mixed scans become uniform when every page is converted.

Pages are embedded as vector content, so text and graphics stay sharp and searchable, and everything runs in your browser with pdf-lib.

When printing the converted file, choose “Actual size” or 100% in the print dialog, so the printer does not scale the pages a second time. If your printer cannot print close to the edge, add a margin of about a quarter inch (6 mm) in the converter; content is then scaled once to fit inside it.

A quick way to check a file before sending it is the PDF Page Size Checker, which lists the size of every page. A document that mixes A4 and Letter pages, common after merging files from different countries, becomes consistent after one conversion.
