  4. Select Trim video, check the preview and download the result.

Video Trimmer features

Visual timeline

Two handles mark the part to keep, with the selection length shown as you drag.

Set from playback

Play or scrub the preview and set the start or end at the current frame with one click.

Lossless fast mode

Copies the original video and audio without re-encoding, so a long clip is cut in seconds with no quality loss.

Frame-accurate mode

Re-encodes the selection so it starts and ends exactly where you chose.

Fade in and out

Soft fades for video and audio at both ends of the clip.

Private

Trimming happens in your browser; the video is not uploaded.

When to use Video Trimmer

  • Cutting the dead time at the beginning and end of a recording.
  • Extracting a highlight from a long match, lecture or livestream.
  • Shortening a clip to fit a social media length limit.
  • Sending only the relevant part of a screen recording to support.
  • Creating a short teaser from a longer video.

Video Trimmer FAQ

Why does the fast mode not start exactly where I chose?

Compressed video stores complete pictures, called keyframes, only every second or few seconds; frames in between depend on them. A lossless cut must start on a keyframe, so it snaps to the nearest one. Use Frame-accurate mode when the exact frame matters.

Does trimming reduce quality?

Fast mode keeps the original quality exactly. Frame-accurate mode re-encodes the clip, which applies compression similar to an export from an editing app.

Can I cut a section out of the middle?

This tool keeps one continuous part. To remove a middle section, trim the first part and the last part separately, then join them with a video editor.

What format is the result?

MP4. In fast mode the original video and audio are copied into an MP4 container; if that is not possible for the codec, the clip is re-encoded automatically.

Is there a length limit?

Files up to 500 MB are accepted. Fast mode handles long videos easily; frame-accurate mode on long selections takes longer on slower devices.

Lossless cuts and keyframes, explained

Video compression saves space by not storing every frame in full. Formats such as H.264 store a complete picture, an intra-frame or keyframe, at intervals, and in between record only what changes. Playing a frame in the middle therefore requires decoding from the preceding keyframe. This is why video editors can cut instantly at keyframes but must re-encode to cut anywhere else.

The fast mode here uses that structure. FFmpeg seeks to the keyframe nearest the chosen start, copies the compressed data until the end point, and writes a new file without decoding anything. The result is identical in quality to the original and is produced in seconds even for large files. The trade-off is precision: the clip may begin slightly earlier than requested.

Frame-accurate mode decodes the video, keeps exactly the frames between the start and end, and encodes them again. That makes the cut points exact and allows effects such as fades, at the cost of time and a small amount of compression.

Trimming is often the first step before other edits. Removing unwanted parts first makes later steps, such as compressing, resizing or converting to GIF, faster and gives smaller results.
