Sign PDF FAQ
Is a signature added this way legally valid?
In many countries a simple electronic signature like this is acceptable for everyday agreements, provided all parties agree to sign electronically. Some documents, such as certain property, court or notarised papers, require a qualified or certificate-based digital signature. Check the requirements that apply to your document.
Is this a digital signature with a certificate?
No. This tool places a visible image of your signature on the page. It does not add a cryptographic certificate, so it does not prove the document is unaltered afterwards.
Can I sign more than one place?
Each run places one signature. To sign or initial another page, download the signed file and run it through the tool again.
Is my signature stored?
No. The signature is created in your browser and exists only for the current session. Reloading the page clears it.
Why does my uploaded signature have a white box around it?
Photos and scans have an opaque background. Tick “Remove white background” to make light pixels transparent, or draw the signature in the tool instead.
Electronic signatures and digital signatures
The term electronic signature covers any electronic mark made with the intent to sign: a typed name, a drawn squiggle, a ticked box. It is the digital equivalent of signing with a pen, and it is what this tool produces. For most routine paperwork this is what the other party is asking for when they say “please sign and return”.
A digital signature is a stricter, technical concept. It uses a certificate issued to the signer to compute a cryptographic seal over the document, so that any later change is detectable and the signer's identity can be verified. Regulated transactions sometimes demand this level of assurance, and it requires dedicated signing software and a certificate from a trust provider.
For the best visual result, sign slightly larger than you need and scale down, use dark blue or black ink, and place the signature so that it overlaps the signature line by a small amount, as a pen signature would.
