PowerPoint to PDF FAQ
Will the PDF look identical to my slides?
Not always. The in-browser converter reproduces text, pictures, solid shape colours and backgrounds. Charts, SmartArt, tables, gradients, shadows, custom theme fonts and animations are not drawn. For an exact copy, use Save as PDF in PowerPoint or a site where the high-fidelity server engine is available.
Can I convert .ppt files?
The in-browser converter reads .pptx. Open an older .ppt file in PowerPoint and save it as .pptx first. With the server engine, .ppt and .odp are accepted directly.
Are speaker notes included?
No. Only the slides themselves are exported.
What about animations and transitions?
A PDF is static, so each slide appears once in its final state with all elements visible.
Is my presentation uploaded?
Not with the in-browser engine. If you choose the high-fidelity server engine where offered, the file is uploaded securely, converted and deleted automatically.
How a presentation becomes a PDF
A .pptx file is a ZIP archive containing one XML file per slide, plus layouts, a slide master, a theme and the media used. Each slide lists its shapes with a position, a size and, for text, a set of paragraphs and formatted runs. Much of the visual design is inherited: a title placeholder takes its position and font size from the layout, which in turn inherits from the master.
The converter walks that inheritance chain to find where each placeholder belongs, resolves theme colours, and writes the text and pictures onto a PDF page with the same dimensions as the slide. This recovers the content and arrangement of typical slides. Elements that require a full rendering engine, such as charts and SmartArt, are beyond a lightweight in-browser conversion and are left out rather than drawn incorrectly.
