LinkedIn Post Preview

The first lines of a LinkedIn post decide whether people click “…see more”. Write or paste your post and see it laid out like the feed on desktop and on mobile, with the text cut where LinkedIn usually cuts it. Add an image from your device or a link to see the media preview, and check the length against the 3,000-character limit, the number of hashtags and mentions and how much of the opening is visible.

    LinkedIn Post Preview FAQ

Where exactly does LinkedIn cut the text?

It varies with the screen and the client, usually after about three lines – roughly 210 characters on desktop and 140 on mobile. The preview uses those limits as an approximation.

    Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is shown from your device only. Only a link you ask to preview is fetched by our server to read its title and image.

How many hashtags should I use?

Three to five relevant hashtags is common practice; long lists look like spam.

Will the link card appear if I add an image?

No. LinkedIn shows either the attached media or a link preview, not both.

    Writing posts that get read

Most readers decide within the first line or two. Put the most interesting statement first, keep the opening short, and use line breaks to make the post easy to scan on a phone.

The preview measures the text with the same font size as the feed and wraps it at a typical feed width, then applies the character limit, whichever cuts first. Emojis and special characters can change the exact cut slightly.

Mentions (@name) become links only when you pick the person or page in LinkedIn’s own editor; in the preview they are plain text.

Privacy: the address you enter is fetched by our server only to run this check. The downloaded HTML is passed to your browser for analysis and is not stored, and the results are not saved on our side. Requests are rate-limited to keep the service fair for everyone, so if you check many pages in a row you may need to wait a few minutes.

Limits: pages are read up to 2 MB of HTML, redirects are followed up to eight hops and each request has a short timeout. Pages behind a login, servers that block automated requests and content added only by JavaScript cannot be analysed this way; for those, copy the page source from your browser and use the paste option where it is available.

Tip: fix the problems marked red first, because they matter most. Yellow warnings are worth reviewing but are often harmless in context, and blue notes are information. After a change, run the check again to confirm the result – search engines pick up the change on their next visit to the page.
