Twitter Card Preview

Twitter retired its own Card Validator preview, so this tool shows you what a link will look like on X. It reads the twitter: meta tags of a page, falls back to Open Graph tags the same way X does, and draws a large-image or summary card. It checks the card type, title and description length, the image address, alt text and @username, and then measures the image: pixel size against the minimums, aspect ratio, format and file size limit.

Twitter Card Preview FAQ

Which card type should I use?

summary_large_image for articles and landing pages, so the image is shown big. summary shows a small square thumbnail.

What image size works?

1200 × 628 pixels for large cards (at least 300 × 157), and at least 144 × 144 for summary cards. Under 5 MB, in JPG, PNG, WEBP or GIF.

Do I need twitter: tags if I have Open Graph?

Only twitter:card is needed for the large layout; title, description and image fall back to Open Graph.

Why does X show only the image?

X currently shows large cards as the image with the title over it and the domain below; the description is not shown on most clients.

Cards on X

A card turns a plain link into a visual preview. X reads the twitter:card tag to choose the layout and takes the rest from twitter: tags or, if they are missing, from Open Graph tags. Without any tags, the link is shown as plain text.

Image problems are the most common reason cards look wrong: relative image URLs, SVG files, images below the minimum size or images that block hot-linking. The image check catches each of these.

X caches cards for about a week; a changed image may take time to appear on links that were already shared.

Privacy: the address you enter is fetched by our server only to run this check. The downloaded HTML is passed to your browser for analysis and is not stored, and the results are not saved on our side. Requests are rate-limited to keep the service fair for everyone, so if you check many pages in a row you may need to wait a few minutes.

Limits: pages are read up to 2 MB of HTML, redirects are followed up to eight hops and each request has a short timeout. Pages behind a login, servers that block automated requests and content added only by JavaScript cannot be analysed this way; for those, copy the page source from your browser and use the paste option where it is available.

Tip: fix the problems marked red first, because they matter most. Yellow warnings are worth reviewing but are often harmless in context, and blue notes are information. After a change, run the check again to confirm the result – search engines pick up the change on their next visit to the page.
