Amazon Product Title Generator FAQ
How long can an Amazon title be?
Amazon’s general limit is 200 characters including spaces, and some categories set lower limits. Mobile search shows far fewer, so the most important words must come first.
Which characters are not allowed?
Amazon rejects titles containing decorative or special characters such as ! $ ? _ { } ^ ¬ ¦ unless they are part of the brand name.
Can I repeat keywords?
A word may appear at most twice in a title; prepositions, articles and conjunctions are exempt. Repeating keywords does not help ranking.
Are promotional phrases allowed?
No. Terms such as “free shipping”, “best seller”, “sale” or “100% quality” are not allowed in titles.
Does a compliant title guarantee good ranking?
No. Compliance avoids suppression; ranking depends on relevance, sales, reviews and many other factors.
Where do category rules come from?
Each category has a style guide in Seller Central. This tool applies the general rules; check the guide for your category.
Why Amazon is strict about titles
Amazon’s catalogue contains hundreds of millions of products, and the title is the main text shoppers use to compare them in search results. To keep results readable, Amazon enforces rules: titles must describe the product, follow a consistent order, stay within a length limit and avoid decoration and advertising. Listings that break the rules can be suppressed from search until they are fixed.
The recommended order mirrors how shoppers think. Brand first, because many buyers search by brand and it identifies the product line. Then the model and the product type, so the item is recognised. Then the features and attributes that distinguish it: the key capability, material, colour, size and pack quantity, the details shoppers filter by.
The rules on words are simple. Do not repeat a word more than twice. Do not use promotional language such as “sale” or “best seller”; prices and badges are shown elsewhere. Do not use special characters as decoration or capitals for emphasis. Numbers should be written as digits, and measurements with their units.
Within those rules, write for the shopper on a phone. Only the first part of a long title is visible there, so the brand, product type and the most important feature must come first. Check the style guide of your category for any additional requirement, then test the title on mobile before publishing.
