Shipping Cost Calculator

Estimate what a parcel will cost to ship and why. Enter the actual weight, the box dimensions and your courier’s volumetric divisor; the calculator finds the volumetric weight and the billable weight – whichever is higher, rounded up to the next half kilo – and applies the base rate, rate per kilo, fuel surcharge and any extra fees from your courier’s price list.

Shipping Cost Calculator FAQ

What is volumetric weight?

Couriers charge large, light parcels by space used: length × width × height divided by a divisor such as 5000.

How can I lower the cost?

Use the smallest box that fits; empty space can double the billable weight.

Does it know courier rates?

No. Enter the rates from your courier’s price list or contract.

Why round up?

Most couriers bill in half-kilo or kilo steps.

Why box size matters

A 2.4 kg item in a 40 × 30 × 20 cm box is charged as 5 kg with a divisor of 5000. Choosing a smaller box often saves more than negotiating rates.

Volumetric divisors differ: 5000 is common for express, 6000 for road freight. Check your courier’s terms.

Re-run the numbers whenever an input changes – a supplier raises prices, a fee is updated or demand shifts – because small changes in costs or volumes often have a large effect on the result.

The calculator is deliberately simple: it uses the figures you enter and shows the arithmetic, so you can follow every step and repeat it in a spreadsheet when you want to build a fuller model.
