Markdown to Word

Write or paste Markdown, or open a .md file, and download a properly structured Word document. Headings become Word heading styles, lists keep their nesting and numbering, GitHub-style tables become Word tables, and links, emphasis, quotes and code blocks are formatted. A live preview shows the result, and the text is converted entirely in your browser.

Markdown to Word FAQ

Which Markdown syntax is supported?

CommonMark plus GitHub extensions: headings, emphasis, lists, links, images, block quotes, code spans and blocks, horizontal rules, tables and strikethrough.

Do headings become Word headings?

Yes. # to ###### map to Heading 1–6, so the navigation pane and table of contents work.

Are images included?

Images embedded as data URLs are. Images linked by web address are skipped, because the converter does not download anything; insert them in Word afterwards.

Is code highlighted?

Code blocks are set in a monospaced font on a light background. Syntax colouring is not applied.

Can I convert to PDF instead?

Yes, with the Markdown to PDF tool.

Is my Markdown uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser.

Markdown in, Word out

Markdown is a comfortable way to write: plain text with a few symbols for headings, emphasis, lists and links. Many people draft reports, documentation and notes in it, and tools such as GitHub, note-taking apps and AI assistants produce it by default. Organisations, however, often expect Word documents for review, templates and archiving.

This converter first turns Markdown into HTML with marked, a widely used parser that follows CommonMark and GitHub’s extensions, then sanitises the HTML and maps every element to its Word counterpart. The result is not a picture of formatted text but a document with real headings, lists, tables and links that behave like ones created in Word.

Headings become the built-in Heading 1 to Heading 6 styles, which means the document gets a navigation outline and can generate a table of contents. Numbered lists restart correctly and nested items keep their level. Tables written with pipes become Word tables with a shaded header row, and alignment markers in the Markdown do not break the conversion.

Code is set in a monospaced font with a light background, block quotes are indented with a rule, and horizontal rules become Word dividers. Links remain clickable. Images can only be included when they are embedded as data URLs; links to images on the web are skipped so that no requests are made on your behalf.

Page format, margins, font and size are set before downloading, and an optional title is added as the first heading. Because everything is built with Word’s style system, you can restyle the whole document in Word in a few clicks.
