DOCX Page Counter
Find out how many pages your Word documents have without opening them one by one. Drop one file or fifty: the counter reads the page count Word stored at the last save, the page ends recorded in the text, manual page and section breaks, words and page sizes, and shows a total for all files. Every number says where it comes from, so you know whether it is exact or estimated.

DOCX Page Counter FAQ
Why are there several page counts?
A .docx file does not contain pages; pages are created when a program lays out the text with specific fonts and printer settings. Word stores the count of its last layout, and it marks where pages ended. When neither is present – for example in files created by other programs – the tool estimates.
Which number should I use?
The “Pages” column picks the best available: the saved count, then the last layout, then the estimate. The saved count matches what Word showed when the file was last saved.
How accurate is the estimate?
For running text it is usually within 10–20%. Choose the words-per-page setting that matches the document’s font size and spacing; images, tables and large headings make real pages hold fewer words.
Can the count change when I open the file?
Yes, slightly, if your computer has different fonts or a different printer than the one that saved it, because line and page breaks move.
Can I count PDF or old .doc files?
This tool reads .docx. For PDFs, which have fixed pages, use the PDF Page Counter.
Are my files uploaded?
No. They are read in your browser.
Why counting Word pages is not trivial
Unlike a PDF, a Word document is a flow of text, not a set of pages. Where a page ends depends on the fonts installed, the printer driver, the version of Word and even the zoom-independent layout settings of the computer that opens it. That is why the same document can have 41 pages on one computer and 42 on another.
Word helps by storing two pieces of information when it saves. The extended properties of the file contain the page count of the last layout – the number shown in Word’s status bar. And inside the text, Word places invisible markers called lastRenderedPageBreak wherever a page ended. The counter reads both, and they normally agree.
Files produced by other programs, such as Google Docs exports, online editors or document generators, often have neither. In that case the counter estimates from the number of words and adds pages for manual page breaks and section breaks that start a new page. The words-per-page setting lets you match common formats: about 500 words fit on a page at 12 pt single-spaced, around 250 with double spacing.
For quotes and billing, state which number you used. The CSV export includes all of them, together with the page size of each section, so a client can see how the total was reached.
All files are processed locally in your browser, which makes it safe to count confidential documents.
