Quote Price Calculator FAQ

Why add overhead?

Rent, vehicles, insurance and admin must be paid from jobs; overhead spreads them across your work.

What is a contingency?

A buffer for unexpected work or price rises, often 5–15%.

Margin or markup?

The calculator prices by margin; the markup on cost is shown too.

Does it make a quote document?

Quoting profitably

Quotes that only cover direct costs lose money once overheads are paid. Building overhead, contingency and margin into every quote keeps the business healthy.

Track actual costs after each job and adjust the percentages.

Re-run the numbers whenever an input changes – a supplier raises prices, a fee is updated or demand shifts – because small changes in costs or volumes often have a large effect on the result.

The calculator is deliberately simple: it uses the figures you enter and shows the arithmetic, so you can follow every step and repeat it in a spreadsheet when you want to build a fuller model.
